Marketing Plan "Weight Loss"

With each new year, many of us decide this is the time we are going to lose weight and get back in shape. We start off with good intentions, and then the hustle and bustle of life takes over and before we know it, we are back to the same habits that we had before the resolution. Well, sadly, many small business owners also have a similar experience when it comes to their marketing plan.

They start the year off with a goal of increasing revenue by xx% or the number of clients by xx%. They then, depending on how much marketing experience they have, create a budget and marketing plan of attack for reaching their goals. Many will also reach out to a few of the ad reps that have contacted them throughout the year and start the ball rolling into turning their “marketing plan” into reality.

Then the work week starts and all the day-t0-day activities of running their business take over and implementing the marketing plan gets pushed further and further back on the list of priorities.

Well, unless you are calling someone like me to help you, here are some tips to help you keep your marketing plan on track:

Marketing Plan Weight Loss Tips

  • “Weigh” your business marketing once a week: Keep track of benchmarks like number of inbound/outbound calls/e-mails or new and returning visits to your business. Are you getting closer or further from your goals?

  • “Exercise” your business marketing once a week: Everyone knows the more you exercise, the better you feel and look. Take a look at your marketing materials and see if they need to be “exercised” with updates that reflect the current environment and your business. For example, if you are still using a brochure you created in 1989, it might be a time to update it.

  • “Eat right” when it comes to your marketing choices: Avoid “junk food” marketing or advertising that may feel good, but isn’t really healthy for your business. In other words, reaching a milestone like 10,000 likes may make you happy, but it really isn’t doing that much to help your business when compared to other marketing avenues.

By following some of these marketing plan tips, you will be one step closer to reaching your marketing goals and having a better 2016 than 2015.
